If you know me, you know I’m passionate about how new strategies, technologies and processes that help achieve business objectives. So, I was excited when the University of Toronto approached me along with a handful of other digital strategists to design and teach their first Certificate in Digital Strategy and Communications Management.

The inaugural class of this three-course certificate was last night and it was immediately clear that the debates in class and online were going to be great. In fact, just minutes into this first class the online commentary had begun.

The Certificate is specifically designed to help communications and marketing professionals make sense of the digital landscape and how it applies to their own organizations. I hear these comments all the time “Where do I start when it comes to digital?” and “Will investing in the social landscape really payoff for my organization?” The quick answer is…take this Certificate since each interactive class will mesh strategy with tactics. And be prepared to roll up your sleeves as there will also be a heavy dose of practical in every class.

Three Courses

As the foundation course, Foundations of Digital Communications Strategy and Social Media, gives professionals the insights they need to formulate a strategic approach to social networks and digital communications in order to achieve business goals.

Course 2, Social on the Inside: Communications On and Offline, examines social and digital communications from within an organization, as a strategic relationship builder and community management tool. Students will learn how to successfully harness social channels for talent acquisition, multimedia storytelling, and integrating online and face to face events.

The final course in the Certificate, Advanced Practices in Digital Reputation Management, highlights real-time issues management and crisis scenarios and analyzes what organizations can do to build, protect and restore reputations should a crisis arise.
